Why Your Dog Should Be Your Valentine (10 Great Reasons)

Valentine's day is coming up - shudder. If you’re like us then you can probably think of better ways to spend an evening making awkward chat in an overpriced restaurant, surrounded by couples making out.

So with that in mind, here are just a few reasons why your dog would make a brilliant alternative valentine this year...

1. No more getting ready

Hate spending hours in front of the mirror debating what to wear to impress?

No worries:

A dog won’t care what sort of shoes you’ve got on, or whether they even match your outfit. They won’t even care if you’ve had a wash - jackpot.

2. Poor chat

Have you ever been on a date and when the person opposite you is speaking you find yourself thinking about what you are having for lunch tomorrow? Yeah….screw that.

3. Cute to look at

As much as you might like a bit of human eye candy, nothing will ever look as precious as your four-legged friend falling asleep in a cute position.

4. Cheap to take out

Worried about spending those pennies? It can be tiring and expensive organising dates to go on. Spend those pennies on a dog treat instead and you know they’ll act like its the best present they ever received.

5. Slobber

Now we’re not going to say that slobber is great, but if your dog drools at least you know what you’re getting yourself into.

On a regular date, it can be an unpleasant shock if you go in for the kiss and you get yourself a washing machine experience.

6. Lots of snuggles

Potential suitors may not take kindly to you tickling their tummy and snuggling up next to them at every opportunity. I mean, try it by all means, but it didn’t work out for me.

7. No more excuses

Half way through a date and you’re considering climbing out of the bathroom window to get away?

Yeah we’ve been there.

You already know you love your dog, so there won’t be any reason to ghost them when the evening comes to an end.

8. No more neediness

No one likes a needy partner, and the same can apply for dogs.

Dogs will follow you around and seek your attention all day. However, if you don’t want to engage with them, this can actually be for their benefit.

If your dog is being badly behaved and seeking your attention, then you can ignore them, which teaches the dog that there’s no reward for this specific behaviour.

9. Keep the chocolate for yourself

Valentines day should involve chocolate, and with a dog around you don’t have to share - theobromine is actually toxic to dogs.

10. Dogs won’t judge

Dating can be frustrating - all those mind games...

Guess what?

Dogs don’t care about playing it cool. Play it uncool for once this year, trust me, it will be awesome.
